Eighteen people were shot execution-style at Ngobozana Village while gathering to attend a family ceremony.

Seven men have already been charged for the killing.

In October 2023, just weeks after the killing of 18 people in Lusikisiki, police revealed the identities of the men linked to the mass shooting.

While most of them were arrested, only Songezo Mashiya Vuma remained at large.

However, his attempt to defeat the ends of justice ended, as he was nabbed on a bus travelling to Cape Town.

He is due to appear in court on Tuesday.

Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane has lauded law enforcement agencies for his arrest.

“As provincial government, we will continue working with our SAPS [South African Police Service] team and all law enforcement agencies to ensure that this province comes back to where it’s known to be.”

Vuma will face 18 counts of murder alongside his co-accused.
