Informal settlement communities in Gauteng urged to exercise caution as rainy weather continues

JOHANNESBURG - Following persistent wet weather conditions in Gauteng, the provincial Human Settlements Department has given residents guidelines to follow to mitigate risks associated with inclement weather.

The department has urged communities in informal settlements to exercise caution and heed warnings issued by the weather and emergency services.
Departmental spokesperson Tahir Sema said residents should inspect and maintain their roofs and walls to ensure they can withstand the heavy rainfall.
"The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements is committed to improving housing conditions, particularly for the most vulnerable. Over the past 30 years, the department has provided more than 1.3 million housing opportunities, we encourage all residents to prioritise their safety during this challenging time.”
