CAPE TOWN - African National Congress (ANC) deputy president, Paul Mashatile, has apologised to a man who claimed to have been mishandled by his bodyguards.
On Tuesday, a scuffle broke out at a home in Khayelitsha in Cape Town between the man and Mashatile's security detail.
The man was pushed out of his own home by the bodyguards, leading to a scuffle in his living room.
Mashatile was visiting the man's home during a door-to-door campaign ahead of the party's birthday celebration this weekend.
The ANC's second-in-command, Mashatile, was engaged in a conversation with an elderly woman in her living room in Khayelitsha when her son interrupted the interaction.
He angrily accused Mashatile's bodyguards of mistreating him in his own home.
In an attempt to keep the man away from the deputy president, the bodyguards forcefully attempted to remove him, leading to a scuffle.
Mashatile later apologised to the man for the way he was treated by his security team.
"We are sorry that my bodyguards pushed your son. They were not aware that he lived here. Please send our apologies to him. I'm so sorry."
This is not the first time that Mashatile's bodyguards have made headlines.
Last year, his security detail was caught on camera assaulting a group of men on the N1 highway in Johannesburg.
