Department spokesperson, Tahir Sema, said residents needed to prioritise safety, adding the department was committed to improving housing conditions, particularly for the most vulnerable.

"The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements urges all residents particularly those in informal settlements to exercise caution and heed the warnings issued by weather services and emergency services regarding the ongoing heavy rains. These weather conditions pose significant risks, especially for vulnerable communities whose homes may be at high risk of flooding," said Sema.
