JOHANNESBURG - The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has appointed Mervyn Dirks as the chief whip of the Parliamentary caucus in the Kwazulu-Natal legislature.
Dirks' selection comes after the recent suspension of former chief whip Kwazi Mbanjwa, along with legislature members Sfiso and Thobani Zuma.
While the specific reasons for their suspension have not been disclosed, they are accused of violating the organisation's constitution through irregularities and transgressions.
The party indicated that the trio would face a disciplinary hearing to determine their future within the organisation.
In a statement - the party says Dirks is an experienced politician who has served in both legislature and national Parliament, during its fifth and sixth terms, respectively.
