JOHANNESBURG - Slain Gauteng traffic warden Chesnay Keppler will be laid to rest on Saturday.

The 22-year-old warden was shot and killed on Boxing Day allegedly by her boyfriend, Mandla Buthelezi, who is a member of the South African Police Service (SAPS) at the Eldorado Park police station.

On the day of her murder, it is understood that Keppler was engaged in a dispute with her boyfriend.

Following the argument, the warden reportedly ran to her home and was followed by Buthelezi.

He then fired seven shots at her home through the window with his service pistol.

Family spokesperson Sizwe Maseko is calling for justice.

“What would bring justice is to see the suspect behind bars. So, when they say he is under police guard and in hospital, and we don’t know - maybe he is getting luxury - but what will give us proper justice and proper sleep at night is seeing him behind bars. Because now we are asking ourselves questions like, is he really in hospital? Nothing has happened. We have never seen him behind bars. We don’t know."

Buthelezi is expected to return to the Protea Magistrates Court next week.
