DURBAN - The police ministry and top brass will visit the conflict-stricken Onyango and Kwamusi villages in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday to assess the violent conflicts in the areas.

For months now, residents in the Onyango and Kwamusi villages have experienced terror and deadly shootings.

In October 2024, police arrested five suspects linked to some of the violent incidents.

Several firearms were recovered during the arrests.

The territorial feuds in the Onyango and Kwamusi areas in Nongoma have now drawn the attention of police bosses.

Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu and the police management will meet the two communities in Nongoma to resolve the deadly conflicts, but mostly to establish their cause.

Speaking at a media briefing in December, KwaZulu-Natal police boss Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said they are paying attention to villages.

“If they want to meet the minister, they are more than welcome. But we will not stop fighting crime in the area. They are not the only ones. We’ve got many villages where we are having these faction fights.”

The ministerial visit comes two weeks after three people were killed in Kwadabhazi, also in Nongoma.
