State to oppose bail for man accused of killing TMPD officer Ramaabele Mothapo

JOHANNESBURG - The State says it will oppose bail for John Manyaba, the man accused of murdering his girlfriend, a Tshwane metro police officer.
Constable Ramaabele Mothapo was shot and killed on Christmas Eve at her Lotus Garden home in Pretoria West.
On Friday, Manyaba made his first appearance at the Pretoria Magistrates Court.

In addition to murder, Manyaba also faces the possibility of being charged with theft of a motor vehicle and defeating the ends of justice.
According to a police statement, shortly after he allegedly killed Mothapo, Manyaba took her car and fled to Limpopo.
He was later apprehended near Lebowakgomo.
State prosecutor, Sihle Letsoalo: "We are in possession of affidavits from different people but mostly from the investigating officer with regards to bail information. Bail for the accused is still opposed."
The matter has been postponed to 22 January for a bail application, which the State said it would oppose.

He was apprehended in Limpopo and charged in the Lebowakgomo Magistrate Court.
