JOHANNESBURG - Phumlamqashi residents in Lenasia South say that the 66 JoJo tanks provided for them for water by the city are not enough to supply over 17,000 homes.
The informal settlement's water supply was cut off because of illegal connections.
Community leader, Fanelwa Mooi, said that after the shut down of supply last year, there had been ongoing plans to solve their water woes.
"There is a plan in action that is going to take place but it won’t happen now. But currently what we said to them is that Phumalamqashi, we have 17,400 shacks and that those 66 JoJo tanks they gave us is not enough."
Meanwhile, the ANC has condemned criminal activities that compromised residents' access to water in the area.
ANC spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu: "We condemn, in the strongest terms, the illegal connections to the municipal water supply, the unlawful sale of water, and the tampering with municipal water valves. These actions undermine the municipality's ability to provide equitable and sustainable water access to the 13,600 households in the area."
