JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Water says it will cut water supply in all informal settlements in the city where illicit connections have been identified.
The city is currently facing a severe water crisis for many reasons, including illegal connections.
The water entity said that residents who would be affected by the cuts would still be supplied from water tankers, as well as communal ablution facilities.
Joburg Water spokesperson, Nombuso Shabalala, explained: "Johannesburg Water will intensify its mass disconnection programme, particularly in informal settlements. This is where huge losses have been recorded, while the entity will ensure that water supply is not interrupted and that water tankers are deployed and refilled regularly."
