JOHANNESBURG - Police are investigating the brutal murder of a child near Duduza on Gauteng's East Rand.
The five-year-old girl was raped and stabbed, allegedly by a local man who is believed to still be at large within the community.
The mood is sombre inside the house of slain 5-year-old Ntombenhle Mzima, who is believed to have been attacked and murdered on New Year's Day.
Her mother, Palesa Mzima, said that she was called from her home on Wednesday, after a resident in the area, who is believed to have been dumping trash at a nearby waste site, noticed a blanket covering what looked like a human form.
Upon discovering the child, the resident called for other community members, who then alerted the family.
Mzima said that Ntombenhle had gone to play at a friend’s house nearby and she was shocked and devastated that her child’s body was later discovered in that state.
Police are still investigating the matter and no arrests have yet been made.
