CAPE TOWN - It's all set and ready to go for Cape Town's annual Kaapse Klopse street parade to be held in the Mother City CBD on Saturday.
The Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association (KKKA) has partnered with the City of Cape Town and Hollywoodbets to showcase the best of Cape Town's vibrant heritage, music and traditions.
Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association director, Muneeb Gambeno, said that more than 20,000 performers from 18 minstrel troupes would parade through the streets of Cape Town on Saturday.
"The build-up is going well in the CBD and traffic advisory services are out. We are closing roads tomorrow morning at 6am, and we are very excited to welcome the 20,000 troupe members and the 100,000 spectators in the city."
Gambeno said that the association's partnership with the City of Cape Town and Hollywoodbets had helped to cover the parade's cost of up to R50 million.
"Without their support, we simply would not be able to offer and present this carnival to Cape Town. Of course, we also have the city of Cape Town as a partner, I would not want to detract from their value that they add to the carnival, but we can't do it without corporate sponsors."
Gambeno said that the carnival would kick-off promptly at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
