JOHANNESBURG - Acting Gauteng Premier, Lebogang Maile, said that the law must be amended so law enforcement officers who commit crimes are punished more harshly.
Maile was speaking at the memorial service of slain Gauteng traffic warden, Chesnay Keppler.
Her boyfriend, a police officer attached to the Eldorado Park police station, allegedly shot and killed her on Boxing Day.

Maile said tough punishment must apply to officers who break the law.
"The law must be harsh against those who commit crime. We need to find a way to make sure that if for instance you are a police officer or a law enforcement officer and you kill someone while you are going on trial you must forfeit some of your benefits like your salary and pension and all that just to send a clear message and not make it easy for people to commit crimes especially those who are expected to take care of our safety."
