A suspect was arrested in Nyanga for the possession of a 9mm pistol and ammunition, while police in Delft nabbed a 20-year-old for carrying an unregistered gun with ammunition.

CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police have raided several communities in recent days in Cape Town, confiscating loaded firearms.  

Nyanga’s South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested a suspect for the possession of a 9mm pistol and ammunition late on Wednesday night, and he will appear at the Athlone Magistrates Court on Friday.

Meanwhile, police in Delft nabbed a 20-year-old for carrying an unregistered gun with ammunition. He is scheduled to appear at the Bellville Magistrates Court on Friday.  

“Members of Delft SAPS arrested a 20-year-old man when he was caught with a revolver without a serial number in his possession,” said Sergeant Wesley Twigg.  

“The members were busy with crime prevention duties in Roosendal Avenue, Roosendal, Delft, when the male saw the police vehicle and started running.”
