NKANDLA - The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government has proposed a mass funeral for the eight victims of the Nkandla taxi accident.

Eight people died after a taxi they were travelling in was hit by another taxi in the Mandaba area on Monday morning.

KZN Transport MEC Siboniso Duma and other officials visited the bereaved families on New Year's Day.

The pain is still fresh for the Majola, Khanyile and Biyela families who lost their loved ones in the horrific accident.

They were going to celebrate the wedding of a close relative when tragedy struck.

Duma has vowed that the government will assist the families during this difficult time.

“It’s painful and I am sure you know it’s the 1st of the January 2025, ordinarily they should be celebrating the compliment of the new season - but although they are suggesting that, although it will be a mass funeral they will want to check all the processes.”

Duma added his department would look into the road issues around the area.

However, he told the mourners he did not want to make promises on the timeline as processes often take time.
