JOHANNESBURG – Joburg Water is scaling up water restrictions for residents.

The city is already on level 1 water restrictions with some Johannesburg residents told to brace themselves for continued water throttling.

Joburg Water has been battling to provide water since its bulk supplier Rand Water reduced supply to the entity due to overconsumption, hundreds of leaks and poor structural maintenance, costing the city billions of litres.

Spokesperson Nondumiso Mabuza explains: “
We will be scaling up restrictions to ensure that we manage our capacity as well as supply. So we are still going to be throttling around the clock for various systems in the city.”
