The suspect was due to appear in court on Monday. However, the matter has been postponed to 6 January.
It is alleged that on the day of her murder, Keppler engaged in a dispute with her boyfriend, Mandla Buthelezi.
Following the dispute, Keppler reportedly ran into her home when he followed her and fired several shots at her through the window with his service pistol.
He subsequently shot himself, attempting suicide, but survived and is now being treated in hospital under police guard.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID)’s Phaladi Shuping said Buthelezi will have his day in court.
“The case against the Eldorado police officer who allegedly shot his girlfriend on the 26th of December 2024 has been remanded to the 6th of January 2025. The officer is still in hospital under police guard after trying to commit suicide when he was arrested for the alleged murder of his girlfriend.”
Keppler’s memorial service will be held at Don Mateman Hall in Eldorado Park.
