Xaba expects visitor numbers to Durban to exceed forecasts

DURBAN - The eThekwini Metro Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal is confident it will exceed its set target for expected visitors in the coastal city for the festive season.

Earlier in December, Mayor Cyril Xaba said he was expecting 1.3 million holidaymakers to visit the coastal city.

He now said the number of visitors could be more than the set target.

Xaba spoke to the media on the sidelines of a roadblock in uMlazi, south of Durban on Tuesday.

"I think we are going to surpass that number and what excites me is that our people are expressing that our water quality is superb that our accommodation facilities are in good order," said Xaba.

He added that most of the hotels are fully booked.

"Our target of 75 percent accommodation occupancy is likely to be exceeded by, but we will only get that when the figures are consolidated," said Xaba
