This measure is aimed at preventing alcohol-related incidents in the area to ensure a safe transition into 2025.
Liquor outlets in the inner city of Johannesburg will have to close their doors earlier than usual on Tuesday, as police have banned the sale of alcohol.
Entertainment venues in the CBS have also been ordered to close their doors at 6pm on Tuesday evening or face severe penatlies.
Outlets allowing parties inside or outside their premises will also be shut down.
The City of Johannesburg has endorsed this temporary alcohol sales ban, noting that past experiences have shown that alcohol contributes to problems during this time of year.
JMPD and SAPS officers will be deployed throughout the CBD on Tuesday to ensure that no bottle stores or entertainment venues remain open overnight.
