JOHANNESBURG - Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has described the Lusikiki mass shooting as one of the most tragic crime incidents of the year.
In September, 18 people were tragically shot and killed by a group of men in a rural area in the Eastern Cape.
The shootings occurred at two separate homes on the same street, just moments apart.
Reflecting on the year that was, Mchunu said that the Lusikiki mass shooting had prompted the police to seek ways to prevent similar incidents in the future.
"I don't think we are going to see worse, especially of this nature. It shocks people, including in the police fraternity. At the same time, it opens a door for police to increase their alertness and action of crimes of this nature."
