DURBAN - Various law enforcement agencies in KwaZulu-Natal are conducting roadblocks in parts of the province to tackle lawlessness ahead of New Year's celebrations.

As roads are expected to be busy, authorities said they want to curb accidents.

Transport MEC Siboniso Duma, eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba and KwaZulu-Natal police top brass are in Umlazi, south of Durban.

Duma said there would be zero tolerance on the roads.

“We are ensuring zero tolerance. When you come to KwaZulu-Natal, you must understand the issue of roadworthiness of the vehicle, road adherence, and tolerance even among other road users.”

He added that other roadblocks are underway across the province.

“As you enter from Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Free State, you’ll see visibility; as you enter from Pongola, Golela and eSwatini, same thing; [and] coming from Eastern Cape, it is the same alike. Fortunately for us, it has yielded positive results.”
