18 people die in KZN car accidents in 1 day

DURBAN - Eighteen people died in car accidents on KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) roads on Monday alone.
The province’s transport department is now appealing to all motorists to be on high alert and drive carefully.
Monday morning was a handful for emergency services in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) as teams had to respond to multiple accidents.
Five people died after their vehicle collided with a police vehicle in the Mondlo area of Vryheid in the north of KZN.
While eight family members travelling to a wedding died when their taxi overturned in Nkandla.
Three others died in a taxi accident on the N2 highway in Durban.
And a one person died when a bus overturned near the Hluhluwe Game Reserve also in the north.
KZN’s transport spokesperson - Ndabezinhle Sibiya: “We are quite sad that as we were reflecting on the decrease in terms of road fatalities, between the 1st and the 27th of December, we are suddenly witnessing such accidents on our roads.”
With December drawing to a close, the roads are expected to be busy again.
Authorities are urging motorists to extra cautious on the roads.
