CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town fire crews are still battling a blaze on the mountain slopes of Kalk Bay.

The municipality said several firefighters were dispatched to assist with the protection of a nearby property.

Two choppers and a spotter plane were deployed for aerial support and water-bombing.

The city's fire and rescue spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said the ground crews relied on aerial support as the blaze gained momentum.

"The speed at which the fire is spreading. A third chopper is inbounded as the aerial vehicles are currently water bombing at the head of the fire. At this stage, no property has been damaged. Further updates will follow."

ROAD CLOSURES

South African National Parks (SANParks) in Table Mountain National Park urged the public to steer clear of Main Road between Clovelly and Kalk Bay.

Traffic is currently being diverted to Muizenberg Main Road.
