Joburg finance MMC renews call for removal of Eldorado Park police station commander

JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg MMC for Finance Margaret Arnolds has again called for the removal of the Eldorado Park police station commander, following the death of a 22-year-old woman, allegedly at the hands of one of his officers.
Brigadier Mkhacani Maluleke has faced criticism over the years for failing to address escalating gangsterism, gender-based violence, and rampant drug trade in the area.

Last week, a 42-year-old police officer allegedly shot and killed his partner, crime prevention warden Chesnay Keppler. The accused was expected to appear in the Protea Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning, but the matter was postponed to next week after the officer fell ill.
After initially calling for Maluleke’s removal in 2022, Arnolds has now renewed her call, accusing Eldorado Park's top cop of incompetence.
“So, are all these women standing here safe from the police inside? Are they protected? Who do I run to if I get raped in the streets?”
