JOHANNESBURG - A weaker rand against the United States (US) dollar is one of the reasons for the latest fuel price increase in January.
This comes as motorists brace themselves for another fuel hike, which takes effect on 1 January 2025.
Petrol will go up by between 12 and 19 cents per litre, while diesel will rise by between 7.5 and 10.5 cents per litre.
"Petrol 93 octane will increase by 19 cents a litre, 95 octane will increase by 12 cents a litre, diesel will increase by 7.5 and 10.5 cents a litre," said Department of Mineral Resources spokesperson Robert Maake.
"The weaker rand against the US dollar contributed about 10 cents a litre, the slightly higher oil prices during the period under review, and the slate levy remains unchanged at zero cents per litre in the price structures of petrol and diesel."
