JOHANNESBURG - As New Year's Eve approaches, Johannesburg's Emergency Management Service (EMS) team is urging residents to use fireworks responsibly.
Spokesperson Xolile Khumalo has reminded parents not to let children handle fireworks without supervision.
Khumalo also appealed to residents to consider the safety of their pets during the celebrations.
"Please ensure that pets are locked away during this time and adhere to permitted times of fireworks, which is between 11 o’clock and 1 o’clock on New Year’s Eve, and between seven o’clock and 10 pm at night on other days."
She added that EMS teams would be on high alert across the city's seven regions to respond to any emergencies.
