JOHANNESBURG - Eleven illegal miners have resurfaced at the Buffelsfontein shaft 10 on Saturday morning.

This comes on the back of 10 more zama zamas who also resurfaced at the Margert Shaft on Friday in Stilfontein in the North West.

The provincial police said that this brings to 47 the number of illegal miners who have resurfaced and been arrested this week alone.

This is part of the police's Vala Umgodi operations that involves shutting down illegal miners' supplies of food, water and health in the fight against illegal mining in the country.

North West police spokesperson Adele Myburgh: "All of them are still being processed and are expected to appear in the Stilfontein Magistrates Court on Monday, 30 December 2024. Vala Umgodi operations will continue through this festive season."
