CAPE TOWN - One hundred and sixty-nine lost children were reunited with their families in the last two days as Cape Town recorded busy beach days.
The City of Cape Town said more than 25,000 children were tagged at various beaches as part of its Identikidz Programme on Christmas and Boxing Day.
Mayco Member for Community Services and Health Patricia van der Ross said the busiest beaches were Strandfontein, Strand and Monwabisi.
"The number of children tagged is an indication of how packed the beaches were. It is easy for young children to lose sight of where their family is located and get lost in the crowds. A number of the lost children in the past two days were not tagged."

Van der Ross said parents and caregivers can rest assured that their information is confidential and is only used when their child is lost.
"Help us to keep your little ones safe. With more holidays and good weather coming up, I want to encourage parents and caregivers who visit the beach with small children to find the Identikidz registration desks and get their little ones tagged," Van der Ross said.
Some of the beaches that recorded more than 1,000 tagged children this week include Camps Bay, Harmony Park, Gordon's Bay, Fish Hoek, Milnerton beach, and Muizenberg and Mnandi - where more than 2,000 children were tagged.
