JOHANNESBURG - The United Democratic Movement (UDM) has expressed concern over the increase in gender-based violence (GBV) cases in the country.

Earlier in December, South Africa observed the end of the 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children.

Since then, there have been multiple cases of intimate partner violence.

In KwaZulu-Natal alone, three women were killed after their partners accused them of having affairs.

The children of the women were also murdered in two of the incidents.

The incidents have prompted widespread condemnation across the country.

"The reports of escalating GBV cases circulating on our social medias continue to paint a grim picture of the state of safety and security in our society," said Zandile Phirim, acting UDM secretary-general.

"The UDM calls on all South Africans to take collective action to end GBV. It is crucial that we work together to create together a safer and more just society for all."
