JOHANNESBURG - Corbin Bosch and Dane Paterson picked up two wickets each to leave Pakistan in a spot of bother at lunch on day one of the first Test at Centurion on Thursday.

At lunch, Pakistan were 88/4 after being sent in to bat after Temba Bavuma won the toss.

The first hour of the match was a cagey affair as South Africa's opening bowlers, Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen, kept the Pakistani openers honest with tight bowling that deserved some wickets.

Bosch, who was making his Test debut, was then thrown the ball and he had an immediate impact when he picked up his first wicket with his very first delivery when he got opener Shan Masood to edge the ball to Marco Jansen at third slip. Masood departed for 17.

Paterson picked up the next wicket when he got Shan Masood to edge the ball to wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne for 14.

Babar Azam followed suit shortly after for 4 when he was caught in the slips by Aiden Markram.

Saud Shakeel was in next and he came in blazing as he struck Paterson for three fours off four balls before he was dismissed in the next over by Bosch while chasing a ball down leg side for 14 off of six balls.

Kamran Ghulam and Mohammad Rizwan had built a partnership of 32 for the fifth wicket when lunch was called.
