3K Gauteng residents trained as first aid responders - Health MEC Nkomo-Ralehoko
The MEC says the intention is to equip residents with medical skills they can use while they wait for professional medical help to arrive.

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng health and wellness MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko said that her department had provided emergency medical training to communities in the province.
She said more than 3,000 community members across the province had been trained as first responders.

The MEC said that the intention was to equip residents with medical skills they can use while they wait for professional medical help to arrive.
Nkomo-Ralehoko said that the courses had already proven to be successful, especially in violence-related cases.
"What we have done is to train in every community. We have trained people, which I'm excited about. We have training courses that we are doing now in the communities we want in every area, especially in the informal settlements, in the townships and in the hostels to assist us."
