CAPE TOWN - If you’re looking to cool off this summer season, you'll be happy to learn that 37 out of the City of Cape Town's 38 community swimming pools are now open.

The city's Patricia van der Ross said the swimming pools would reopen in stages to balance public access.

She said that construction at the Sea Point swimming pools had now finally been completed.

"I think we'll start off with Sea Point, that we picked up a sinkhole in September and we thought this is the one thing that we really need to jump on quickly. Subsequently, it has been resolved, it has been opened. We had another gem in Observatory that's been closed for almost eight years, she's open again."

Van der Ross said that a few swimming spots would be opening before the new year.

"We've got Westridge that is opening at the end of December, but we have Eastridge that will be opening on Thursday, Boxing Day, so that's another highlight for us. We've also got the Delft that is opening on the 26th."

She added that the Goodwood swimming pool would be close until around mid-January, as it was experiencing an electrical issue.
