CAPE TOWN - A Hawks officer has been arrested in connection with his wife's murder.
The incident happened in Stellenbosch over the weekend.
The warrant officer was arrested by police watchdog, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), shortly after the murder on Saturday.
It's alleged the man and his wife got into an argument at their Kayamandi home.
The 41-year-old deceased then attempted to flee, but the police officer allegedly followed her and fired several shots.
The woman ran into their neighbour's house, where the officer again, apparently fired a number of gunshots, in full view of the residents.
"He is going to appear before the Stellenbosch Magistrates Court on Monday the 23rd of December," said the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping.
The official is facing a charge of murder.
