Wall collapse due to heavy downpours claims 2 lives in KZN

JOHANNESBURG - Heavy rains in KwaZulu-Natal have claimed the lives of two people after a retaining wall collapsed near an informal settlement in Cato Manor, west of Durban.
It’s understood the pair were trapped under rubble for several hours on Saturday, when the retaining wall collapsed onto their shack.
Ethekwini Municipal spokesperson Gugu Sisilana says the victims include an 18-year-old female and a 38-year-old man.
Sisilana said a second shack was also affected.
“No fatalities or other injuries were recorded from the second affected structure.”
Meanwhile, the South African Weather Service is anticipating a yellow level two warning for disruptive rainfall over KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Gauteng on Monday.

During the past week areas in Limpopo, Free State and Tembisa have experienced severe weather conditions which resulted in floods that have engulfed people and brought damage to low-lying bridges
"We're also expecting a yellow level two warning for severe thunderstorms that could lead to strong winds, large amounts of small hail and heavy downpours. This is expected over the western part of the northwest province. A yellow level one warning for disruptive rain leading to localised flooding can also be expected," said SAWS forecastor Samkelisiwe Thwala.
