JOHANNESBURG - Search-and-rescue operations continue at the Hennops River in Centurion, near Pretoria, after a man went missing over the weekend.

Emergency services received a call about the man who allegedly fled from security custody on Sunday morning.

Officials said the man ran into the river and was swept away by the strong water current.

"The operations resumed in the early hours of this morning, on Monday 23 December 2024. However, due to the heavy rains that occurred overnight, the river continues to present unsafe working conditions to enter and do search and rescue. The search-and-rescue teams will continue to monitor the river conditions to be able to safely perform their operations," said the City of Tshwane emergency services' spokesperson - Lindsay Mnguni.
