CAPE TOWN - Fire crews have managed to contain a blaze in Masiphumelele near Kommetjie.
Authorities received an emergency call after 4am on Monday morning, reporting that there were structures alight in the community.
No injuries or fatalities were reported but the City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Service's Jermaine Carelse said they had to call on law enforcement to patrol the fire lines, following attempts to cut fire hoses.
"The fire has been contained and we are slowly scaling back on the number of vehicles and staff needed at the incident. We should commend the firefighters, who, under trying circumstances did a sterling job by surrounding the fire quickly and prevented any further damages. Staff will remain on site until the area is declared safe."
