JOHANNESBURG - More than 1,000 trucks have been processed crossing into Mozambique at the Lebombo border post in Mpumalanga in the past 24 hours.
This as efforts are being beefed up to allow the smooth processing of vehicles and people.
Since unrest erupted in Mozambique in October, the Maputo port has lost more than R54 million due to disruptions.

Border Management Authority (BMA) head, Michael Masiapato, said it was all systems go ahead of the busy festive period.
"Just in the past 24 hours, we have been able to process more than 1,000 trucks that moved out of South Africa into Mozambique. So up to this point, everything is going according to plan. The corridor is well managed by the Mpumalanga traffic police, the Cross Border Road Transport Agency, together with the Road Traffic Management Corporation."
He said that the majority of the people crossing between both countries were Mozambicans.
"We have also seen the high escalation of the Mozambicans coming into South Africa primarily to buy food for Christmas at Kommatjieport, and after that they then get processed back into Mozambique. We do not have a lot of South Africans that are crossing into Mozambique."
