JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng's MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabane, has condemned motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol.
Her comments come after a motorist was arrested for drunk driving during a road safety operation at the Grasmere Toll Plaza.
Tlabane says they have issued more than 500 fines since the start of the operation
"This morning the team started at around half past 8, to do the operation, the stop and search. We also just saw now we are arresting one person who's driving drunk, we also have discontinued one car."
Tlabane adds that they’re particularly concerned about young drivers as statistics show that most drunk driving cases involve them.
"We are worried about the age group, the age cohort between 20 to 45 are the perpetrators of this and we are requesting not to really drink and drive."
