Deputy Transport Minister welcomes support of long-distance taxi industry leaders

JOHANNESBURG - Deputy Transport Minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa says long-distance taxi industry leaders have encouraged law enforcement to administer sufficient consequence management to non-compliant taxi drivers.
Hlengwa says they have welcomed the support because long-distance transport operators contribute to society and the economy.

He further emphasised the importance of checking vehicle roadworthiness and the number of passengers and cargo carried as these factors affect overall road safety.
"The journey begins at home. It is only through the strength of collaboration that we'll succeed, hence we must expand also to the buses and hence I'm speaking to the trucking industry as well."
