Between now and Christmas Eve, more than 380,000 air passengers are expected to pass through South Africa's airports.

ACSA CEO Mpumi Mpofu said the early arrival of travellers would prevent long queues at airports.

“We are asking international passengers, for this peak season, to arrive three hours before [their flight]. Just that additional hour is able to help us ease both the big numbers that are coming but also ensuring we are able to assist BMA [Border Management Authority] in implementation of their particular system. The plea for domestic [travellers] is to ask passengers to arrive two hours before [their flight].”
