Johannesburg Water said it was reliant on the ward councillors to give residents updates on work being done by the utility and Rand Water via social media and customer notices.
"As late as yesterday, Joburg Water did meet with councillors of Johannesburg to give them an update on where the system and maintenance is following the completion of the maintenance," said the City of Johannesburg mayoral spokesperson, Chris Vondo.
"Yes, there might be areas where there has been no sufficient communication reaching out, but our understanding is that the councillors are working together with Joburg Water to be able to communicate and reinforce that message."
