CAPE TOWN - Children’s safety is once again in the spotlight as the holiday season starts.

The City of Cape Town said its Identikidz programme was in place to ensure children’s safety at the city’s beaches over December.

In addition to safety, the city also launched a recreation festival for young people in Belhar.

The city’s Patricia van der Ross said the festival, which will take place every year, was focused on providing young people with healthy, fun activities.

"These events showcase the power of recreation in shaping young minds and fostering a sense of community. It’s heart-warming to witness the energy and enthusiasm of our youth as they engage in activities that promote their physical, mental, and social development."

The event featured multiple team-building events for the youth.

"We are committed to creating more opportunities for young people to learn, grow and connect with their communities, and just to simply have fun."
