CAPE TOWN - A 41-year-old Cape Town policeman accused of rape will know on Thursday if he'll spend Christmas behind bars or be let out on bail.
He is accused of sexually assaulting a 26-year-old woman who was a detainee at the Mfuleni Police Station in November, where the officer worked as a cell guard.
The victim who was detained on kidnapping and attempted murder allegations claims that the accused forced himself on her in an empty cell and then took her back to her cell where she was locked up with seven other women.
The State has argued against releasing the police officer out on bail, claiming that he's a threat to society.
It claims that the accused previously tried to attack another female detainee at the police station in March 2021.

The State also argued that the police officer had a history of violence against women, with a long list of assault charges brought by his wife in previous years.
He is also out on bail for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.
The defence, however, claims that the latest alleged incident was consensual.
