JOHANNESBURG - A South African film, Old Righteous Blues, is still in the running for a nomination at the Academy Awards.

The feature film from a small town in the Western Cape, Robertson, tells a story about love, identity, community, and redemption.

Muneera Sallies, award-winning filmmaker and director of the film, said this was an opportunity to demonstrate South Africa's thriving film industry.

"It's obviously really such great news, and for us, it's really just testament to the great talent that South Africa has. I mean, I always say we can't compete with the dollar, but we can compete with the type of stories we tell."
