CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town said that its energy teams had ensured that the metro's main travelling routes were lit up during the festive season.

Mayco member for Energy, Xanthea Limberg, said that her teams had repaired close to 10,000 street lights in the past month.

Limberg said that she'd inspected the burn rate of street lights on major routes along the peninsula, the M3, Philip Kgosana Drive and the R27 among others.

She urged residents to report theft and vandalism to the city's emergency centre.

"Criminal acts often increase over the festive and holiday season. We urge our residents to remain vigilant and keep an eye on electrical infrastructure in their neighbourhoods to reduce the chances of outages."
