JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg City Power said there is an increase in cable theft in the CBD, which is affecting residents and businesses.
On Tuesday, cables were allegedly stolen from the Selby central distributor, leaving many people in the dark.
The utility's Isaac Mangena said that tunnels underground were being targeted by criminals, who sometimes ended up dying in the process.
"This is something that we are taking up with authorities, including their health, safety, and even the police, so that we can address the theft and vandalism while the team was also occupied with repairs at central substation."
