Former Pretoria school principal in court on child pornography charges

A former school principal and teacher appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on charges of sexual grooming and child pornography.

The 41-year-old man was arrested on Friday following an investigation by the South African Police Services (SAPS) and the United States Department of Homeland Security.

EWN reporter Orrin Singh says the accused faces six charges - three pertaining to sexual grooming and three of exposing minors to pornography.

"We know that when they arrested him at his residence, they confiscated a number of electronic devices, ad on these devices there are images and videos of child pornography, very disturbing stuff."

After a brief appearance, the suspect's case postponed to Tuesday 24 December, when he can proceed with a possible bail application.

He cannot be identified until he pleads.

A second man facing sexual grooming charges was also due to appear in the same court on Tuesday.

Arrested at his home in Vanderbijlpark last Thursday, the 49-year-old is accused of sexually grooming and raping his girlfriend's 15-year-old daughter.

Singh says the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was involved in this arrest, after information was supplied to an international tipline.
