Dezemba often means slowing down but if you don't want to lose your fitness momentum, these three exercises are recommended daily for a full body workout.

3 exercises to keep your body moving WITHOUT going to the gym

Africa Melane speaks to Lloyd Marlowe, a six-time Comrades Marathon finisher, about some fitness tips.

Listen below.

Marlowe discusses three essential exercises to get back on your fitness journey before the summer season officially starts in the next few days.

Marlowe recommends the following for some fitness progress without the gym:

"Focus on dividing full-body movements into three parts focusing on; core, upper and lower body exercises," advises Marlowe.

  1. Core: planks - this tones abs and improves posture while helping with back pain.
  2. Lower body: squats - this strengthens glutes, and thighs and improves mobility.
  3. Upper body: push-ups - this sculpts arms, chest and shoulders while working the core.

Add some exercises to boost cardio like running or jogging, Marlowe recommends.

If you do these consistently over three weeks, they might make a difference in how you feel.

Marlowe says to start slowly, moving your body 10 to 15 minutes daily and enjoying the process.

"We are so fixated about doing as much as possible in a short period of time and especially for beginners... I would say say start slow and focus on small quantities that really focus on consistency... 10 to 15 minutes of movement everyday. So, start slow and start small and focus on consistency over a long period."

"Focus on what's do-able. Focus on enjoying what you're doing. Don't go too hard too early and build slow..."
