JOHANNESBURG - With the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) having a new leadership team, the party said that its focus was to now rebuild the organisation following its electoral decline.

The party held an elective conference in Johannesburg over the weekend, where it elected a new top six structure.

This structure has been tasked with anchoring the party’s rebuild project and ensure it performs well in the 2026 local government elections.

In the lead-up to the 2024 general elections, former EFF deputy president, Floyd Shivambu, was deployed to KwaZulu-Natal to garner support.

However, the effort did not go as planned, with the party securing only 2% of the vote in the province.

Party president, Julius Malema, said that with a new leadership team in place, the EFF must now focus on expanding the party’s electoral footprint.

"The EFF is here to stay. The EFF will not die today, the EFF will not die tomorrow. This organisation is going to be here for days to come. They declare this Nasrec a death place of the EFF. Now, the EFF is not buried, the EFF is re-energised."

The EFF's new set of leaders will steer the organisation until its next conference in 2029.
