DURBAN - UMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party leader, Jacob Zuma, has blamed poverty and inequality for South Africa's high crime rate.

With the high number of robberies, hijackings and murders, Zuma said that poverty was at the root of it all.
"Crime is caused by the fact that as black people, we are being subjected to poverty. What can one do when they are in this situation? Some opt to steal."
Zuma said that his party would rid the country of poverty once in power.
"We will return economic freedom for our people to eat and be happy."
